3.1 Linking to Textures with the Texture Toolbox
by Jim

-
In the D-Day mod, we must use older-fashioned
looking textures and more outdoorsy ones too. Remember, WWII didn't
take place on Stroggos! First, go to Toolboxes > Texture Browser...:
-

-
Next, we need to create a new main folder
to put the D-Day textures in. Go to Folders > New Main Folder...:
-

-
Then choose "store new folder in the
.qrk file" and hit OK:
-

-
Now you'll see a New Folder in the lower
left. Note: If you don't see the id textures at left, you'll
need to repeat this process to obtain links to them. It's been a
while since I started using QuArK, so I can't remember if I had to do this.
-

-
If you want, you can rename this folder
to "DDAY" or something. Now select it so that it's highlighted, as
shown, and click the "make links to a folder of textures" button at top
center:
-

-
The list will show the contents of your
Quake2 folder. Yours will most likely be different from mine, i.e.
you'll be able to see "baseq2", etc. Scroll down, highlight "dday",
and hit OK:
-

-
The program may inform you that changes
have been made to the .qrk file. It is important to remember to select
"Save Changes" or equivalent option when you close QuArK so that you don't
have to re-link the textures.
-
Now, you'll see lots of subfolders with
textures, the number of which depending upon how many "unofficial" D-Day
maps you have installed. By clicking once on each subfolder the textures
therein are displayed.
-

-
Now let's return to our sample map so
we can add these textures to actual brushes in the next lesson. Go
to Toolboxes > sample or whatever you named the map:
-

-
-

Note: I apologize for my non-standard
Windows color scheme.
