Quake 2 mapping contest!
So I got this mail:
"It's been a while... We'd like to announce that Q2 Cafe will be holding the 10th Quake 2 Mapping Contest and you're invited! This is the big 10 so we're planning something memorable. We really loved your past contributions to the Quake 2 community. We currently have quite a few people signed up but it's not the same without your presense! This contest is about a fun experience, group activity, and touching base with our good old friends. There's no pressure to submit works of art unless of course you want to and we're pretty flexible with the dates. We're also looking for people to help judge and rate the maps, so if you know someone like that please feel free to invite them smile-emoticon
There's a number of old school quakers and mappers who are psyched to have this contest to showcase their latest work and mapping skills in a venue like the good old days. I'm sure you too have lots of fun filled Quake 2 memories and great ideas lying around that you've been holding back all these years, so come out and realize them with us!
All creative entries are welcome, big or small, they will all help make this Mapping Contest a success. And since we didn't have a contest for many many years, this one should be extra special. That's why we would hate for you to miss it! We're always looking for talented mappers, players or judges like yourself to help bring exciting content to the people within the Community. We hope you are willing to join our fun event and make something neat and exciting with us. Different levels of participation are welcome. And if anything, it might be an excellent opportunity to meet your old friends from the Quake 2 community and catch up on some of the developments you have missed, so please join us here:

Re: Quake 2 mapping contest!
Man... I was actually considering trying my hand at making a map or two for DDay way way way back in the day but never got around to it. It's probably way too late now. Though I do wonder if there are many new maps made for any Q2 based game/mod anymore.

Personally I concentrate on making bots for maps, though that often means a new addition of a map so the bots can play.
Re: Quake 2 mapping contest!
Yeah - I'm actually starting to get an itch to try my hand at adding bots to more maps. Though I don't really have any mapping experience so I'd have to just lay down some paths and hope they work out...

Adding bot paths can be done in-game if I'm not mistaken. No mapping experience required.

Re: Quake 2 mapping contest!
True - though MYNF mentioned modifying some maps to make bots work on them I believe. So those ones would probably be out of my league but some of the others I might be able to work something out.GypsyLlama wrote:Adding bot paths can be done in-game if I'm not mistaken. Where's Afrow when you need him - he was the best mapper ever (although Fafner/Parts made great maps too).
