The Raspberry Pi is a brilliant bit of kit - I have two now (my first one runs dns/dhcp/ntpd/ for my home network).

Mine is running Arch and will be used as HTPC (I'm still toying with it first).

That looks an interesting device - I may have to get one.
I just bought another Pi today (Raspberry Pi B, case, wireless dongle, infrared cam, camera extension lead, power supply and RTC all for £77.00).
This will be set up for when the fish tank is in total darkness... I already have sorted out the code. Also will be running Slackware, of course

700 MHz Low Power ARM1176JZ-F Applications Processor
So Yes - and as to your next question - No, I will not set-up a server

OO Poo! You could run it out of your pocket.
Isn't fascinating that you have far more computing power in your pocket then NASA landed people on the moon?

But I guess people (of a similar age) said that when the steam engine was invented, or electricity was discovered etc.

P.S. the webcam is back up - last night I added a few new scripts ready for a new infrared cam, and got the logic wrong - I couldn't do anything until I got home from work today, so all is well again.
Re: Raspberry Pi's anyone?
I've tinkered with the idea of getting one, when more funds become available. I still have my first computer, a Timex Sinclair 1000. 2k of memory with and expansion card to 16k. 8k EPROM for the Operating system. Good times.

Yes, basically they were ZX81's. I had the spectrum - and taught myself Z80 assembly language. All forgotten nowNight Rider wrote:wow I remember them Timex Sinclair

yeah, It was just the version that was marketed in the USA. Assembly was the only way to do anything significant on them. Used to love a game on it called Mazogs.

Re: Raspberry Pi's anyone?
I got the Raspberry Pi 4B, 4 GB version, I would have gotten the 8GB version but they didnt have any in the store, I just wanted to get one up and running before I invest in spending lots, now that I can get them running, Ill wind up ordering a few 8GB versions Online and making a headless 64bit server stack that will use around 100 watts, got a few more ides.....
