Because the graphics of Quake2 are dated there and not as real as later games, there have been ongoing attempts to use new engines to and textures to improve the look of the game. The thinking is many people look at the old graphics and are not impressed, never giving the game a chance, even though it is a lot of fun to play. This is a more recent attempt to find such an engine that is Quake oriented that can handle higher res texture and physics.

I plan to put up a EGL server at some point in the near future so we can play the better maps with the old favs. However I am not sure how to set up voting with an EGL server.. may ask for help.

DDay2 sounds interesting, but honestly I kinda like the old-skool graphics of the current game... I just wish more people could look past and give it a shot.

Yeah, I don't know about you guys, but I hate how game designers' #1 priorities are just realistic graphics. They never give a single second to think of how they can improve the fun of the game. After years of new games just being like that, I'm beginning to hate realistic games altogether. Point being, I don't want D-Day to become that. If we're improving in that direction, remember to maintain the fun!
Took 11 years of playing dday to figure out the command is "shout afrow_shout4". I shall return to the battlefield with a burning vengeance and a wicked cackle.

I think the idea is to keep the maps as is, just make the graphics look better as people seem to expect it a lot.

But then it is like going back to records after cd's and dvd's, just because it is a deeper experience.
