Need info for setting up a service in WinXP

Post by Night Rider » Mon Mar 29, 2010 10:45 pm

Need info for setting up a service in WinXP. Some one out here must have done this before.
I was looking in the forums for srvany.exe or a older program called Qhost that did it for you. Right now server is started up by a bat file. But if it crashes it does not restart it self. Hoping some one can point me to a link in the right direction.

I don't know if you can start a batch. But you might be able to.

Thank You Dirk for pointing me in the right direction. I googled sc.exe and found this http://support.microsoft.com/kb/251192
From there I found this Srvinstw.exe tool is a graphical user interface (GUI) version of sc.exe
An your right the Start Dedicated Server.bat file would not work. So I found this bat2exe convertor. So now on my computer I have a service called DDay Server all is running great for now.

Hey Night Rider what program did you use to make the Start Dedicated Server.bat into a .exe ?.
I have tried about 10 programs now and it can't even see the .bat when I try to select a .bat to convert, any ideas ?

Yes I found a program called Firedaemon Pro at a computer show. It makes any exe a service. This program works great in Winxp. I also use it to run my mumble server and FTP server on start up also. This is there web site for more info http://www.firedaemon.com/

I am not sure if this is relevant, but here it goes. I created a shortcut to the .bat file that I use to start the game. I copied the short cut to the start up folder: c:\documents and settings\all users.Windows\start menu\programs\startup . When my server goes down, I just turn it on and it does its thing. No need for setting up a service, at least on my machine anyway. I hope this is usefull...
